What I'm Working On: Q1 2025 Edition
Here’s what I’m focusing on for the first quarter of this new year:
This Site + Blog
I’m creating a space away from social media to publish my thoughts. Having my own platform will help me practice writing and improve the clarity of my communication. As I publish more content, I plan to iteratively enhance the site’s design and functionality.
Apple Vision Pro, Graphics Programming, & Generative World Models
My journey with spatial computing has been interesting. I initially purchased an Apple Vision Pro at launch but returned it, despite seeing its potential as a new platform. The price point was difficult to justify, and my attempt to develop a visionOS app during the 14-day trial period revealed gaps in my computer graphics knowledge.
Two developments changed my perspective: First, my experience with Claude 3.5 this summer showed me how a capable coding assistant could make development less daunting. Second, the advancements in text-to-video models opened up exciting possibilities for spatial computing applications.
Recently, I found a Vision Pro at a more reasonable price point than Apple’s MSRP, which prompted me to revisit my spatial computing ambitions.
While I have several app ideas in mind, I’m starting with the concept I explored during my first Vision Pro experience: creating an app that lets users bend spoons by tilting their head, inspired by the iconic scene in The Matrix. My initial approach was naive – I thought Apple’s RealityKit framework would be sufficient. Now, with a better understanding of RealityKit’s limitations, I’m excited to dive deep into computer graphics fundamentals and Apple’s Metal graphics API to bring this vision to life.
